The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade, has dismissed claims of a disagreement between him, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, and the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, stating that his relationships with both leaders remain peaceful and respectful.
Speaking with journalists at his residence in Boroboro, Oyo town, the monarch clarified that there is no conflict with the state government. He explained that any concerns, if they ever arise, would be handled privately through direct communication with the governor. He also noted that his recent absence from public events was due to health reasons, not any form of disagreement.
Addressing rumours about tension with the Olubadan, the Alaafin described their relationship as cordial and built on mutual respect. He dismissed reports suggesting otherwise, attributing them to misinformation spread by bloggers.
He further explained that a past incident interpreted as a snub was a misunderstanding, as the Olubadan later clarified he did not notice the gesture. According to the Alaafin, both leaders have since communicated and even met at a gathering in Aso Rock, reinforcing that there is no issue between them.
The monarch emphasised that he holds no grievances against any individual or institution and urged the public to ignore unfounded rumours. He also expressed appreciation to journalists for their continued support of the palace.
Looking ahead, Oba Owoade revealed plans for his birthday celebration on July 18, during which selected individuals would receive chieftaincy titles.
Reflecting on his time on the throne over the past year, he highlighted ongoing development efforts in Oyo. These include the establishment of a committee to resolve land disputes, construction of a community health centre expected to be completed soon, and plans for a civic centre. He also mentioned that renovation work is ongoing at the palace to improve its facilities and preserve its heritage.
Reaffirming his commitment to unity and progress, the Alaafin encouraged residents to support traditional institutions and focus on development rather than speculation.
