The widow of Mr. John Olaleye, one of the teachers who reportedly died while in the custody of bandits after the abduction of teachers and pupils in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, has appealed to Governor Seyi Makinde to help recover her husband’s body and provide support for their three children.
Speaking with journalists, the grieving widow said her hopes were dashed when she discovered that her husband was not among the teachers and schoolchildren released by their captors on July 10, 2026.
She said the realization that her husband would not return alive has left the family devastated.
According to her, the government should intervene by ensuring her husband’s remains are recovered and returned to the family for a proper burial.
She also appealed to the Oyo State Government to assist with the welfare and education of their three children, noting that her late husband was the family’s sole breadwinner.
The widow explained that since her husband’s death, caring for the children has become an overwhelming burden and urged the government to provide any form of humanitarian assistance.
Reacting to reports circulating on social media that families of victims who died in the Oriire abduction would receive ₦50 million in compensation, she said neither she nor her family had received any official communication or financial support.
She stated that no compensation had been paid to them and that they were unaware of any confirmed arrangement.
Her appeal comes amid growing calls for both the Oyo State and Federal Governments to provide adequate support for families affected by the Oriire school abduction, especially those who lost loved ones while in captivity.
While the release of the surviving teachers and pupils brought relief to many families, the widow said her family continues to mourn, urging Governor Makinde and relevant authorities to recover her husband’s remains and support the future of their children.
