Suspected bandits have reportedly launched a fresh attack on Kakafu community in Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State, abducting four residents during a midnight raid.

The incident was said to have occurred around 1:30am on Sunday when the armed men invaded the farming settlement, shooting into the air and throwing residents into panic.

Sources in the area disclosed that the attackers operated for several minutes without any resistance before taking their victims to an unknown location.

A forest guard, who spoke anonymously due to security concerns, said the village is located on the outskirts of Patigi town and lacks adequate security presence, especially at night.

He explained that the alarm was raised early Sunday morning, prompting local guards to mobilise and search surrounding bush paths, but they could not trace either the kidnappers or the abducted residents.

According to him, the victims include one man and three females, identified as a mother and her two daughters.

“They did not kill anyone. They only abducted the four victims and fired sporadically to create fear and confusion among the villagers,” the source said.

He added that the community remains in a state of fear, with residents traumatised and worried about possible further attacks.

“People are still in shock. Panic has gripped the community because the assailants are believed to be hiding in nearby villages,” he added.

When contacted, the spokesperson for the Kwara State Police Command, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said the command had not yet received an official report of the incident but promised to confirm details and provide updates.

The latest attack comes amid growing tension in parts of Kwara State following reports that suspected armed groups recently issued threat letters to several communities in Oyun and Kaiama local government areas.

This development is also coming days after a deadly assault on Woro town on February 3, which reportedly claimed over 200 lives and led to the abduction of more than 100 persons.
