Olayomi Koiki, media aide to Sunday Adeyemo, has defended the activist’s recent political stance, stating that no individual can halt the ongoing agitation for a Yoruba Nation.

Koiki made this clarification while responding to criticism from supporters of the Yoruba self-determination movement who accused Igboho of abandoning the cause following his endorsement of Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

According to him, Igboho’s support for Tinubu is a personal decision and should not be interpreted as a setback for the broader struggle. He emphasised that the movement for a Yoruba Nation involves many stakeholders and is not dependent on a single figure.

Koiki explained that Igboho is just one of several individuals advocating for the cause, adding that the agitation has grown beyond the influence or control of any one person.

He further stressed that the push for Yoruba self-determination cannot be stopped by anyone, including Igboho himself, noting that the movement has taken on a life of its own.

Addressing the backlash over Igboho’s political alignment, Koiki maintained that personal political choices should be separated from the collective goals of the movement. He insisted that criticism directed at Igboho should not be used to undermine the broader agitation.

He also stated that Igboho remains committed to supporting Tinubu despite public reactions, describing the decision as one he is entitled to make independently.

Koiki added that attempts to discredit the activist would not succeed, while also pointing out that Tinubu already has a strong political base that supports his leadership.

The comments come amid ongoing debates within the Yoruba Nation movement, with some members expressing concern over Igboho’s position. However, Koiki reiterated that the movement will continue regardless of individual political affiliations.
