Nollywood actor and comedian Samuel Perry, popularly known as Broda Shaggi, has recounted his experience after a stray bullet injury forced him to stay away from work for several months, leaving him worried about his future in the entertainment industry.
Drivetvnews gathered that the comedian shared his experience in a YouTube video uploaded on Wednesday night, confirming an earlier report that he sustained a gunshot injury while filming a comedy skit in March 2026.
The incident reportedly occurred on a Sunday afternoon under the Sango-Ota bridge in Ogun State while he was working on a brand activation assignment.
Although the circumstances surrounding the shooting remained unclear, a police source said the comedian sustained a gunshot injury. However, the Ogun State Police Command said it could not confirm whether the incident happened within its jurisdiction.
The command’s spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, urged the public to avoid spreading unverified information while investigations continued.
Recounting the incident, Shaggi said he lost consciousness and could not remember how he was taken to the hospital. However, he recalled praying while being transported to the first hospital, where he received first aid.
“I was totally unconscious till I got to the hospital. So, I didn’t even know how we got to the hospital. But one thing I could remember was me praying till we got to the first hospital where first aid was administered,” he said.
Describing the pain and fear he experienced, the comedian said he was sweating, holding his injured leg and watching blood flow while desperately hoping to hear reassuring words from medical personnel.
He said the injury also raised concerns about whether he would be able to continue his entertainment career, particularly because dancing, singing and other physical performances were important aspects of his work.
Shaggi explained that he had maintained a busy schedule since 2018, constantly moving between writing scripts, filming skits, recording music and travelling for engagements.
“Since 2018 till date I never rest. It’s always back to back. If I’m not writing I’m shooting. If I’m not shooting, I’m in the studio making music. If I’m not making music, I’m travelling for something,” he said.
According to him, staying away from work for months made him fear that his fans might forget him and that he might struggle to return to the entertainment industry.
During his hospitalisation, he tried to keep himself occupied by writing and starting a YouTube series. However, watching his colleagues continue working and entertaining their audiences sometimes left him emotional.
“There were moments where I would see videos of my colleagues. I would laugh and sometimes I would just start to cry because I wasn’t sure if I would still be able to do all these things they doing again,” he said.
The actor disclosed that he initially underwent surgery in Nigeria but was informed that he needed additional treatment and physiotherapy.
After about four months, he decided to travel to Dubai for further treatment. He said his recovery improved significantly following surgery there, explaining that he was able to stand with support on the second day and walk with crutches on the third day.
Reflecting on the incident, Shaggi expressed gratitude that the bullet struck his hip rather than his head or another vital organ.
“It was a stray bullet and it came this way to my hip. What if it had come this way and hit my head or hit any vital organ?” he said.
Providing an update on his recovery, the comedian said he could now stand without crutches but still needed them for additional support.
He recalled that there was a time when he could not move without using both crutches or even place his injured leg on the ground.
Expressing gratitude for surviving the incident, Shaggi described his recovery as a second chance and assured his fans that he was preparing to return to their screens with new projects.
“I’m grateful to be alive. It’s second chance. You should also be grateful to have Shaggy back on your screen because right now I’m coming with exciting projects,” he said.
He urged his followers to anticipate his return, adding that he had several projects lined up.
