Bayo Onanuga, spokesperson for President Bola Tinubu, has criticised former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, saying he needs serious counselling over what he described as repeated gaffes, inconsistencies and incoherent statements.
Onanuga made the remarks in a post on his X account on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, following reports that Obi had urged Nigerians living abroad not to send money to their relatives back home.
“Peter Obi needs some counselling, not ordinary counselling. All those gaffes, inconsistencies, and incoherence are forming a worrisome pattern. I seriously think that he needs help,” Onanuga wrote.
Obi, who contested the 2023 presidential election, remains a prominent opposition figure ahead of the 2027 general election. He is now associated with the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), according to the report.
The reported remarks on diaspora remittances have attracted attention, with Onanuga using the issue to question Obi’s public statements.
However, the full context of Obi’s reported comments was not immediately available.
Diaspora remittances remain an important source of financial support for many Nigerian households.
