President Bola Tinubu has described the death of former Delta State Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan, aged 71, as a significant loss to Delta State and Nigeria, commending his years of service to the country.
In a condolence message issued on Monday, Tinubu said Uduaghan dedicated his leadership to the development of Delta State and national service, particularly in infrastructure, healthcare delivery and improving residents’ welfare.
The President extended his condolences to Uduaghan’s wife, Roli; his children; his cousin and former Delta State governor, James Ibori; as well as his friends, political associates and others mourning his death.
“Dr Uduaghan was a public servant whose leadership was devoted to Delta State’s development and service to our nation,” Tinubu said.
Uduaghan governed Delta State from 2007 to 2015. Before becoming governor, he served as the state’s commissioner for health and secretary to the state government.
Tinubu noted that Uduaghan played a significant role in Delta State’s political and developmental affairs during his two terms in office, pursuing initiatives to improve infrastructure, healthcare services and the general welfare of residents.
According to the President, the former governor remained active in the state’s political and socio-economic affairs after leaving office, contributing to democratic governance and public service.
“His passing is a great loss to his family, his community, Delta State, and the nation at large,” Tinubu said.
The President urged Deltans to take comfort in Uduaghan’s years of service and the relationships he established across Nigeria’s political and social circles.
He also prayed for God to grant the former governor eternal rest and provide comfort to his family, friends and all those grieving his death.
