The Nigerian Army has warned its personnel against using social media platforms, stressing that soldiers who violate existing regulations risk disciplinary action.
The warning was issued by the Nigerian Army Provost Marshal, Mathias Erebulu, during a training seminar for Military Police personnel.
According to Erebulu, soldiers have no business operating on social media and commanders have been directed to sensitise troops on the consequences of abusing online platforms.
He stated that personnel who breach the military’s social media regulations would face punishment, urging commanding officers to reinforce discipline across their formations.
The Army chief also reminded personnel that civilians should not be detained in military facilities beyond 24 hours after preliminary investigations. He stressed that any civilian arrested by soldiers must be handed over to the appropriate law enforcement agency within the constitutional timeframe.
The seminar focused on operational discipline and accountability among Military Police officers.
