A man identified as Newton Isokpehi, who claimed to be a serving police officer with 26 years of experience, has sparked outrage online after threatening to shoot anyone who records him while on duty.
In a viral video shared on social media, Isokpehi issued several threats in Pidgin English, warning members of the public and even senior officers against filming policemen during operations.
He claimed that any officer who authorised civilians to record police activities would face serious consequences, while also threatening violence against anyone who approached him with a camera while armed and on duty.
The controversial video was reportedly posted on a TikTok account bearing the username “#actor459” before it was later deleted. However, other videos showing the man in police uniform remained visible on the account as of the time of reporting.
Although his identity as an active police officer could not be independently verified, the video triggered widespread criticism online, with many Nigerians condemning his comments as dangerous and unprofessional.
During the clip, Isokpehi displayed scars and what he described as bullet wounds on his body, saying officers suffer hardship and poor welfare despite risking their lives in service.
He also acknowledged efforts by the current Inspector-General of Police to address unpaid insurance and death benefits owed to officers and their families.
As of press time, the Nigeria Police Force had not released an official statement regarding the viral video.
