The Katsina State Government has confirmed that a former Senior Special Assistant on Community Development, Nura Garwa, is being investigated over alleged involvement in a kidnapping syndicate.
Garwa was among suspects recently paraded by the Katsina State Police Command in connection with the abduction of an eight-year-old boy at Sardauna Estate in Katsina metropolis.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Salisu Zango, the government disclosed that Garwa had earlier been suspended from office before contesting for a seat in the Katsina State House of Assembly.
According to the statement, the former aide was suspended over allegations of diverting empowerment materials meant for communities in Batsari Local Government Area under the state’s Community Development Programme.
The statement added that Governor Dikko Umaru Radda described the allegations against Garwa as unfortunate, especially considering his former role in government and political ambition.
The governor also commended security agencies for their efforts in tackling insecurity in the state and urged residents to continue supporting authorities with useful information about suspicious activities.
Police authorities had earlier announced the arrest of suspects linked to the kidnapping syndicate, identifying Garwa as one of the principal suspects connected to the abduction case.
