The Kano State Fire Service has rescued three people, including an 18-month-old child, from two separate well accidents in Kumbotso and Warawa Local Government Areas of the state.
According to the agency, the incidents occurred on Friday morning and involved an unidentified 40-year-old man, a 32-year-old woman identified as Maimuna Shitu, and her son, Harisu Muntari.
The first incident occurred in the Semegu area of Kumbotso, where the man reportedly fell into a well. Emergency responders rescued him unconscious and handed him over to police authorities for further investigation.
In a separate rescue operation at Madarin Taba Village in Warawa, firefighters pulled Maimuna Shitu, said to be suffering from mental illness, and her 18-month-old son from a well after both fell inside. They were rescued unconscious and handed over to family members and community leaders.
The Fire Service said investigations were ongoing to determine the causes of both incidents.
Reacting to the accidents, the Director of the Kano State Fire Service, Alhaji Sani Anas, urged residents to properly cover wells and take safety precautions to prevent similar occurrences.
He also advised parents and guardians to closely monitor children and vulnerable persons, noting that well-related accidents remain a recurring challenge in some northern communities.
