A viral video showing a visibly injured young woman believed to be 18 years old has triggered widespread concern on social media, with many calling for authorities to investigate allegations of domestic abuse.

The footage, which surfaced online, shows the young woman with apparent facial injuries while a man identified as her husband argues with neighbours who confronted him over claims that he had been abusing her. Witnesses in the video accused the man of repeatedly assaulting the woman and urged him to leave her alone.

In another video recorded at what appeared to be a hospital, the woman was seen alongside human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu. While discussions were ongoing about possible legal action against her husband, the woman appealed for him not to be arrested.

She insisted that she no longer intended to continue the marriage and preferred to leave quietly rather than pursue legal action. Her emotional plea drew mixed reactions from the public, with many expressing concern about her safety and wellbeing.

Following the circulation of the videos, the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency acknowledged the case after being tagged on social media, stating that it was taking steps to address the situation.

The incident generated intense debate online. Many users urged authorities to intervene regardless of the woman’s reluctance to press charges, while others highlighted the psychological effects that victims of abuse often experience.

Several commenters questioned how someone so young could find herself in such circumstances, with some calling for greater awareness, education, and support systems to help women identify and leave abusive relationships.

The case has reignited discussions about domestic violence, the protection of young women in marriages, and the challenges faced by law enforcement agencies when alleged victims appear unwilling to cooperate with legal proceedings.

Observers also noted the growing influence of social media in drawing attention to abuse allegations and prompting official responses from relevant authorities.
