The family of Deacon John Olaleye, one of the two teachers killed during the abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, has appealed to the Federal Government and Governor Seyi Makinde to help recover his remains for a proper burial.
Drivetvnews gathered that the appeal was made by the deceased’s elder brother and widow following the rescue of 39 pupils and five surviving teachers who spent 56 days in captivity.
The victims were abducted on May 15, 2026, when terrorists attacked three schools in Oriire LGA. During the incident, seven teachers and 39 pupils were kidnapped. Another teacher, Michael Oyedokun, was later killed by the abductors, who released a video of the act. Authorities later confirmed that Olaleye had also been killed while in captivity.
Speaking in a TVC interview, Olaleye’s elder brother said the family only discovered his death after listening to Governor Makinde’s announcement following the rescue operation.
He appealed to the authorities to recover his brother’s remains, even if only skeletal remains could be found, so the family could give him a dignified burial. He also called on the government to support the deceased’s widow with employment and provide educational scholarships for his three children.
Olaleye’s widow also pleaded with the government to recover her husband’s body and assist the family financially. She said she is now solely responsible for caring for their three children and appealed for support, particularly with their education.
Earlier, the rescued principal of Community High School, Oriire, Mrs. Rachael Alamu, disclosed that the abductors deliberately killed two teachers during the 56-day captivity to pressure the government into meeting their demands.
Following the successful rescue operation, the surviving pupils and teachers received medical care and psychosocial support before reuniting with their families.
The Senate has approved ₦50 million for the families of five people who lost their lives during the rescue operation, including the two slain teachers and three soldiers. Under the resolution, each bereaved family is expected to receive ₦10 million to support the children left behind.
However, Olaleye’s widow said she had not been informed of any financial assistance.
