Justice Abdul Hamid of the Gombe State High Court has sentenced Rose Dogara Silas Gyar to three years in prison for her role in a N3 million fraud related to the Central Bank of Nigeria’s Anchor Borrowers’ program. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) confirmed the verdict in a statement, revealing that Gyar, prosecuted by the EFCC’s Gombe Zonal Command, pleaded guilty to cheating the petitioner out of N3 million. Gyar, along with Mohammad Babayo Maina (currently at large), deceived the victim by falsely promising enrollment in the CBN’s Anchor Borrowers’ program, including funding and farm inputs. Despite the guilty plea, Gyar has the option to pay a N20,000 fine.In a separate incident, the EFCC operatives from the Gombe Zonal Command arrested Yusufu Tanimu for suspected Automated Teller Machine (ATM) card fraud in the state capital. Tanimu, apprehended based on actionable intelligence, was found with 33 ATM cards from different banks, a Tecno phone, and an ATM card holder. Investigations are ongoing, and Tanimu will face charges once the probe into his activities is completed.
