President Bola Tinubu has called on Nigerians to protect the unity of the country, stressing that differences in religion, ethnicity or political views should not be allowed to threaten national cohesion.
Tinubu, who was represented by Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, made the call on Tuesday at an event in Abuja.
The President emphasised the importance of dialogue in resolving disagreements, while assuring Nigerians that his administration remained committed to addressing insecurity and promoting peace across the country.
He urged Nigerians to continue talking through their differences and work towards keeping Nigeria united.
Also speaking at the event, APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda warned politicians against exploiting religion and ethnicity for political gains.
Yilwatda, drawing from his experience as a displaced person during the Bauchi crisis, said violence does not discriminate between Christians and Muslims, stressing that its consequences affect everyone.
He urged Nigerians to recognise their shared hopes, challenges and aspirations despite differences in religious beliefs.
The APC chairman further cautioned political leaders against turning religion and ethnicity into tools for political mobilisation, warning that temporary political gains could result in lasting damage to the nation.
He stressed that no political victory should be pursued at the expense of Nigeria’s peace, unity and stability.
