Sophia Momodu, the mother of Nigerian singer David Adeleke’s daughter Imade Aurora Adeleke, has responded to his recent legal action seeking custody. In a press statement released just days before Davido and Chioma’s wedding, Sophia addressed several contentious issues from her perspective.
She began by recounting her relationship timeline with Davido, noting they were together from 2014 to 2017 and then again from 2020 to 2022. During these periods, she claimed Davido financially supported both her and Imade. However, Sophia alleged that after their relationship ended in July 2022, Davido threatened to complicate her life unless she resumed their romantic involvement. She further stated that despite her willingness to facilitate visits, Davido had not been regularly present in Imade’s life.
Sophia also criticized Davido for what she described as his failure to engage with Imade on significant occasions like birthdays and Christmas, instead portraying himself as a caring father through social media. She detailed instances where Davido allegedly neglected financial responsibilities towards Imade, including school fees, which were reportedly only settled after intervention from Davido’s father.
Sophia’s revelations stirred significant debate on social media, with commentators weighing in on her claims and motivations. Some argued that her timing, just before Davido’s wedding, suggested ulterior motives, while others supported her stance on paternal responsibilities and the rights of single mothers.
