The Taraba State Police Command has detained a woman accused of burning her step-grandson’s lips with a hot knife. The incident took place in the Wukari Local Government Area of the state.
The victim, Chinecherim Julius, suffered severe injuries when his grandfather’s wife allegedly burned his lips.
Ibrahim Audu Angyu, the Senior Assistant on Media and Publicity to the Chairman of Wukari LGA, confirmed the arrest, stating, “It is incomprehensible how someone could inflict such brutality on a child.”
Angyu described the woman’s actions, which included using a hot knife to cut the boy’s lips, as a horrific and indefensible act of violence that demands strong condemnation.
He praised the Executive Chairman of Wukari Local Government Council, Hon Dauda Agbu Samaila, for taking swift action to arrest the woman. Angyu emphasized that this demonstrates that no one is above the law and that justice must be served regardless of the situation. He commended the chairman for ensuring that Chinecherim Julius received medical treatment and that the perpetrator faced justice, setting an important precedent for those in positions of authority.
Angyu highlighted the crucial need for society to prioritize the safety and well-being of children and to collectively work towards protecting them from harm. He reiterated that violence against children, like what happened to Chinecherim Julius, is unacceptable and should not be ignored.
“We must unite to foster a safe and nurturing environment where all children can flourish,” he added.
