Some officers from the Ogun State Police Command have been detained for allegedly demanding money from the family of a missing girl before initiating action on the case.

The spokesperson for the Nigeria Police Force, Muyiwa Adejobi, revealed this in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday.

Although Adejobi did not disclose the names of the officers involved, he confirmed they are currently in custody and undergoing disciplinary procedures.

In his statement, he said: “Otta missing girl: The policemen who requested money before addressing the case have been arrested and are now detained for disciplinary action.

“We strongly condemn this behavior and will not tolerate it. Such actions are unprofessional, inhuman, and show a lack of empathy.”

Adejobi also assured the public of the command’s dedication to finding the missing girl. He expressed confidence that she would be located soon and urged the victim’s family to cooperate with the authorities.

“The Ogun State Police Command is actively working on the case. The girl will be found as quickly as possible. We encourage the victim’s family to support the investigation,” he added.

According to Drivetvnews, the missing girl, a seven-year-old daughter of a point-of-sale operator, was reportedly abducted by a regular customer of her mother in Ogun State.

The incident occurred when the suspect bought food for the girl and later sent her on an errand to buy a sachet of water.

When the mother reported the matter to the police, she was allegedly asked to pay ₦10,000 to file the case and an additional ₦30,000 to track the suspect’s phone number.
