In a recent court hearing, Mr. Aloba Joseph, the father of the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, known as Mohbad, disclosed his son’s conversations with popular singer Azeez Fashola, widely known as Naira Marley, before Mohbad’s tragic demise on September 12, 2023. The revelations came during the ongoing coroner’s inquest, initiated by the Lagos State Government, held at the Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State.
Mohbad’s father acknowledged that his son had been residing with Naira Marley since December 2019 and shared that Mohbad had informed him about the possibility of resolving his issues with the Marlian record label boss. According to Mr. Aloba, he and his son lived together for 18 years, and he was unaware of the exact location where Mohbad resided with Naira Marley until his son’s passing.
During his testimony, Mr. Aloba revealed that Mohbad left home at the age of consent to assist Naira Marley while pursuing his own music career. He mentioned seeing his son three days before his death and expressed his shock at viewing Mohbad’s casket only in a photograph. Mr. Aloba also claimed that his son’s landed property was under the custody of his mother-in-law. He alleged that Mohbad’s wife had administered sleeping pills in his food during their time with Naira Marley, and he accused her of infidelity.
Furthermore, Mr. Aloba informed the court that Mohbad had reconciled with his mother and had even purchased a car for him. He provided details of his son’s possessions, which were reportedly in the possession of his wife and her family.
The court session began with the coroner expressing condolences to Mr. Aloba Joseph, assuring him that justice would prevail in this case. Notably, following the incident, Naira Marley and a Lagos socialite, Balogun Eletu (known as Sam Larry), were remanded in police custody by a Yaba Magistrate’s Court on October 4.
