The Church of Christ Evangelical and Life Intercessory Ministry in Sabon Tasha, located in Kaduna State’s Chikun Local Government Area, has distributed food supplies to over 1,000 underprivileged Muslims and Islamic schools as the 30-day Ramadan fast begins.
Pastor Dr. Yohanna Buru, the church’s General Overseer, spoke to journalists after the distribution, stating that the initiative aimed to support disadvantaged Muslims and Tsangaya schools during Ramadan.
He emphasized that the effort was designed to promote religious harmony and peaceful coexistence in the community.
“This is also a way of reciprocating the generosity of Hajiya Ramatu Tijjani, a Muslim woman who consistently donates rice, money, and new clothing to widows and orphans in our church during Christmas, New Year, and Easter celebrations,” he explained.
Pastor Buru highlighted that for the past 19 years, the church has provided food items such as rice and maize to less privileged Muslims across five northern states, helping them observe the Ramadan fast with ease.
“Our goal this year is to assist over 1,000 needy Muslims. We have already secured 30 bags of maize and millet, and distribution has started today,” he announced.
He also urged well-meaning individuals to extend support to the less fortunate and called on traders to avoid unnecessary price hikes during Ramadan.
To address rising food costs, the pastor mentioned that he had mobilized 30 volunteer pastors and imams for a seven-day campaign urging traders to keep prices stable.
Expressing gratitude for the support, Mallam Hassan Lawal, a representative of the Association of Persons Living with Disabilities, appreciated the church’s generosity.
Likewise, Mallam Tukur Zubairu, the leader of the Kaduna State Blind Persons Association, acknowledged the church’s ongoing assistance to the Muslim community during Ramadan.
