Veteran Nollywood actor Dele Odule has candidly revealed that he doesn’t consider himself proficient in film production, despite having produced around 10 films over the years.
In a conversation on Oyinmomo TV, Odule admitted that the responsibilities of film production, especially financial management, are not his strong suit.
He acknowledged that he lacks oversight of the master copies of several of his previous works and is uncertain if those projects were even financially successful.
“I’m not good at producing — never have been,” he stated. “A successful producer must know how to handle finances, and that’s an area where I fall short. Film production is essentially a business, and making a profit is key, but I’ve never mastered that aspect.”
Odule emphasized that his true strength lies in acting, where he feels most confident and fulfilled. “That’s why I choose acting — it’s what I’m truly good at,” he explained.
Reflecting on his production efforts, he said, “Even though I’ve made about 10 films, I can’t confidently say whether they were profitable. I don’t even know where the master copies are — and that says a lot about my shortcomings as a producer.”
He also recounted a challenging period in his career when he was blacklisted from acting for two years. Odule believes this was a result of being seen as a threat in the industry.
“I was banned from acting for two years. I believe it happened because some people saw me as a threat and decided to sabotage me through blackmail,” he added.
