Portuguese footballer and Liverpool forward, Diogo Jota, has reportedly died following a car accident in Spain, according to a report by Spanish outlet Marca.
Jota, who had been vacationing in Spain after contributing to Liverpool’s 2024–2025 Premier League victory, was allegedly involved in a fatal crash during the early hours of July 3. He was 28 years old.
The accident reportedly occurred at kilometre 65 on the A-52 highway, near Palacios de Sanabria in Zamora province. Jota was said to be travelling with his younger brother, André, 26, also a professional footballer, when their vehicle left the road and burst into flames.
Eyewitnesses claimed the vehicle caught fire upon impact, with the blaze spreading to nearby vegetation and complicating rescue efforts. Emergency services responded quickly after being notified, but Jota was declared dead at the scene. Details about André’s condition remain unclear as of now.
Neither Liverpool FC nor the Portuguese national team has issued an official statement confirming the incident as of the time reporting this.
