The Commissioner of Police in Osun State, Ibrahim Gotan, has directed a full investigation into the killing of three people and the injury of several others following a violent incident in Akinlalu community.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, and shared with journalists.

According to the report submitted to the police by Chief Oyebamiji Kamorudeen, a group of Amotekun operatives stormed Akinlalu on Tuesday in two patrol vans and a private vehicle. He alleged the action was a reprisal for the earlier theft of two pump-action rifles from Amotekun personnel by unknown individuals.

Kamorudeen claimed that during the raid, the operatives fired shots indiscriminately, leaving Kadijat Adeagbo (22), Oyebamiji Oke-Ila (60), and Toheeb Fayomi (19) with serious gunshot wounds. He further alleged that Ibrahim Oyebamiji (26), Sefiu Oyebamiji, and Abiola Olutayo were killed, and that their bodies were taken away by the security team.

Police officers later moved to the scene, where they recovered 13 expended cartridges and evacuated the injured to nearby hospitals. Their intervention helped to restore calm in the community.

However, the Amotekun Corps presented a different version of events. According to their statement, the operatives had responded to a distress call from residents but were ambushed by armed hoodlums, who seized two of their rifles. A reinforcement team was deployed but reportedly came under heavy fire at a barricade near Akinlalu.

Amotekun stated that the gun battle lasted over an hour, during which three suspected attackers were killed. They added that arrests were made and the stolen rifles were later recovered from a hideout.

Faced with the conflicting accounts, CP Gotan ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Osogbo for a discreet and thorough inquiry.

“All allegations—including murder, assault, armed attack, gun snatching, and impersonation—will be carefully investigated to establish the facts and ensure justice is done,” the statement said.

The police urged residents of Akinlalu to remain calm, noting that more tactical teams have been deployed to the area to maintain peace and prevent further violence. The Command also reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, fairness, and upholding the rule of law, while appealing to the public to provide credible information that could aid the investigation.
