The management of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, has suspended academic activities at its Iseyin campus after the death of a 200-level student from the Department of Agricultural Economics.
In an official statement signed by Mrs. Olayinka O. Balogun on behalf of the university management, the student was reportedly killed by a hit-and-run driver in Iseyin. The tragic incident has left the campus community in deep grief. The victim was said to be a newly promoted second-year student.
The statement added that, due to the emotional impact of the incident on students and staff, the university has approved a two-week suspension of academic activities at the Iseyin campus, effective immediately.
All students in the College of Agricultural Sciences and Renewable Natural Resources have been instructed to embark on a two-week break, with lectures expected to resume on Monday, November 24, 2025.
It was also recalled that students of the Iseyin campus had recently staged protests over increasing insecurity in the area, following reports of violent robberies and assaults.
The university management urged students to remain calm, stay safe, and support one another during this period, while encouraging them to honour the memory of their late colleague.
Staff members on essential duties are to continue their responsibilities as directed.
The management extended heartfelt condolences to the deceased student’s family, friends, and the entire LAUTECH community, describing the loss as deeply painful.
