Gunmen suspected to be bandits opened fire on a bus belonging to the National Congress of Evangelisation, Operation Good News, on Friday evening along the Eruku–Obbo Ile road in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State.

According to reports, the evangelism team was on its way to Shagbe, a community in Ifelodun Local Government Area, when the assailants suddenly appeared from both sides of the road and began shooting sporadically at the vehicle.

A source revealed that one of the passengers sustained gunshot injuries, while the driver managed to speed away from the scene, narrowly preventing a more tragic outcome. The injured passenger was taken to a nearby cottage hospital for treatment.

Residents described the Eruku–Yagba route as a danger zone, citing frequent incidents of attacks and kidnappings in the area. Both Eruku and Yagba, which share borders with Kwara State, have experienced several violent occurrences in recent months.

In a related incident earlier reported, armed men raided the Igbonla community in Irepodun Local Government Area of the state, abducting several residents during a midnight invasion. Witnesses said the attackers fired multiple shots to frighten locals before taking an undisclosed number of people away.

Security personnel, including police officers and local vigilante groups, have since been deployed to track down the culprits and rescue the victims.

These recurring attacks have intensified fear among residents of Kwara South, with many fleeing rural areas for safety. The rise in banditry and kidnappings across the region continues to heighten concerns about insecurity in the state.
