The family of 52-year-old bricklayer, Abidemi Alao, is urgently seeking help after he went missing while returning from a family event in Ogbomosho, Oyo State, last Saturday.
Alao, affectionately known as “Daddy,” was last seen boarding a commercial bus around 4 p.m., heading toward Ibadan. He was expected to reach home later that evening but has not been heard from since.
His brother, John Kolawole, told PUNCH Metro that Alao had attended their sister’s introduction ceremony and was dropped off at the bus stop by another sibling.
“He boarded the bus around 4 p.m., and later, someone who sat beside him called to say he had reached Ibadan by 7 p.m. and was about to continue his journey,” Kolawole explained.
Attempts to contact Alao afterward were unsuccessful. On Sunday morning, a stranger answered his phone and said it had been found on the bus, promising to call back. However, the phone was later switched off and could not be reached again.
Mutiu Ayanwale, another family member, disclosed that the family has reported the incident at several police stations in Lagos. They also received a suspicious call from an unknown individual claiming to have Alao and demanding a ransom of N50,000.
“That’s the only step we’ve taken besides posting his picture on social media,” Ayanwale said. “One of his daughters received a call from someone claiming they were holding him and demanding money. When we asked to speak with him, they refused. We suspect it is a scam because the call came shortly after we posted his photo online, so no money was paid.”
Despite sharing alerts on social media, the family has not received any credible information on Alao’s whereabouts. His phone remains unreachable, and his family continues to appeal to the public for assistance.
Anyone with information about Abidemi Alao is urged to contact local authorities or the family immediately.
