The Bauchi State Police Command has taken into custody a 20-year-old man over the alleged sexual assault of a six-year-old girl in the state.
In a statement released on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Nafiu Habib, said the suspect, identified as Bilal Ya’u, was arrested after the victim’s father lodged a complaint at the Alkaleri Divisional Police Headquarters.
According to the police, the report stated that on January 5, 2026, the suspect—who lives in the same neighbourhood—allegedly lured the child into an uncompleted building, where the offence was committed. The incident was formally reported the following day.
Habib explained that detectives, led by the Divisional Police Officer of Alkaleri, Kadiri Danjuma, promptly moved to the scene after receiving the report. The victim was taken to the General Hospital in Alkaleri for medical examination and treatment.
The police spokesperson added that the suspect was arrested and later confessed during interrogation. Investigators also discovered that the same child had allegedly been abused by the suspect in 2024, during which time the child’s mother reportedly warned him to stay away.
The command confirmed that investigations are ongoing and assured that the suspect will be charged to court once inquiries are concluded.
The Bauchi State Police Command reiterated its commitment to protecting minors and urged residents to promptly report cases of abuse to enable swift intervention by law enforcement agencies.
