President Bola Tinubu and First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu hosted Asisat Oshoala, the Super Falcons striker and 2023 CAF Women’s Player of the Year, in Lagos on Thursday to celebrate her sixth win of the prestigious title.Commending Oshoala for her remarkable achievements in football, the President and First Lady praised her significant contributions to women’s football across the continent.President Tinubu highlighted the pride Nigerian women hold globally, expressing admiration for their accomplishments not only in football but also in various fields. He emphasized the Nigerian character of excellence, tenacity, ingenuity, and resilience demonstrated by these women.Acknowledging other notable Nigerian women achievers like Tobi Amusan, media mogul Mo Abudu, and WTO Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, who were featured on Forbes’ ‘2023 World’s 100 Most Powerful Women’ list, the President and First Lady assured Oshoala of the nation’s continuous support for her and other women striving for excellence.After the warm reception, Oshoala expressed her gratitude to the President and First Lady for their support, especially during challenging times, stating, “I want to appreciate the President and the First Lady for giving me the opportunity to present the award to them. During the last World Cup, we had a couple of issues, and they intervened and have been very supportive to the girls, even after the competition.”
