Tragedy struck on the Warri-Sapele expressway at Ometan community in Delta State, claiming the lives of seven individuals in a horrifying tanker explosion. The calamity unfolded when a tanker carrying petrol suffered a detachment, causing the tank to separate from the truck’s head, resulting in a devastating collision and subsequent blaze.
The catastrophic event unfolded around 10 a.m. on Friday, sending shockwaves through the community and beyond. Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, who was returning from inspecting projects in the creeks, was informed of the incident and promptly expressed his condolences to the affected community.
Eyewitnesses recounted the harrowing scene, describing how the tanker, loaded with fuel, toppled onto the road after its detachment while in transit through Ometan community along the Warri-Sapele Road.
Governor Oborevwori, accompanied by key officials including Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, and former Chairman of Okpe Local Government Council, Hon. Isaiah Esiovwa, visited the accident site to offer support and solidarity to the grieving community.
Reflecting on the tragedy, Governor Oborevwori lamented the loss of lives and extended heartfelt sympathies to the families of the victims and the entire Ometan community, acknowledging the gravity of the unfortunate incident.
