On Monday, several customers, whose mobile SIM cards were deactivated due to the failure to link their National Identification Numbers (NIN) to their SIM cards, vandalized an MTN office in Lagos State. As previously reported by Drivetvnews, a large number of frustrated MTN customers across the country visited the company’s offices to express their dissatisfaction with the recent blocking of their phone numbers by the telecom company.

Drivetvnews noted that on Sunday, MTN had deactivated numerous mobile lines due to issues related to NIN-SIM linkage. The situation escalated when some of these irate customers targeted the MTN office located at 72 Junction, Opposite First Bank, 23 Road, Festac Town, Lagos. The customers vandalized the building, alleging that the staff were unhelpful.

A 17-second video posted on X showed a crowd of subscribers breaking into the telecom office. The video depicted the crowd pulling down the iron bars used as security fencing to gain access to the building.

At the time of this report, normalcy had reportedly been restored. In response, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has instructed telecommunication operators to reactivate all blocked SIM cards affected by the NIN-SIM verification process. The NCC issued this directive on Monday, demanding immediate action from the telecom companies.
