A viral video has triggered widespread outrage after showing alleged assaults on women during a community festival in Ozoro, Delta State.

The footage, which circulated online on Friday, captured groups of young men harassing women in public, forcefully tearing their clothing and subjecting them to various forms of abuse. The incident reportedly occurred on Thursday, March 19, during an annual festival in the town.

According to reports, the event is linked to a local custom that expects women to remain indoors. It was alleged that any woman seen outside during the celebration becomes a target for harassment by participants. There are also unconfirmed claims that some victims may have suffered more serious forms of assault.

Reacting to the incident, the spokesperson of the Delta State Police Command, Bright Edafe, described the situation as disturbing and unacceptable. He revealed that the Commissioner of Police, Aina Adesola, has ordered a full investigation.

The police condemned the act, stressing that no tradition or cultural practice should override the fundamental rights and dignity of individuals. Authorities have assured the public that those responsible will be identified and prosecuted.

The command also appealed to witnesses and anyone with useful information to come forward to assist ongoing investigations.
