Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has approved the immediate implementation of the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) for eligible workers in the state public service.
The announcement was made by the Chairman of the Oyo State Pensions Board, Tunji Adekunle, through a circular issued to ministries, departments, agencies, and civil servants across the state. The development was disclosed in a statement released by the Commissioner for Information, Dotun Oyelade.
According to the circular, the scheme will cover employees who joined the Oyo State Civil and Public Service from January 1, 2025. Full implementation of the pension programme is scheduled to begin on July 1, 2026.
Under the approved structure, the state government will contribute 12 percent of an employee’s monthly earnings, while workers will contribute 8 percent, bringing the total pension contribution to 20 percent.
Adekunle assured workers that the government would promptly pay all accrued pension benefits due to affected employees once the scheme takes effect.
To facilitate a smooth rollout, all ministries, departments, and agencies have been directed to submit comprehensive records of staff employed from January 1, 2025, using the prescribed format provided by the Pensions Board.
The board also instructed every MDA to appoint a Pension Desk Officer who will serve as a liaison between the agency and the board. The officers will help coordinate pension-related activities, ensure accountability, and support efficient processing of pension matters.
Relevant information and supporting documents are expected to be submitted to the Oyo State Pensions Board on or before June 22, 2026.
