Former Kano State Governor and vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has expressed support for the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN), saying the clerics accurately reflected the realities confronting millions of Nigerians.
Drivetvnews gathered In a statement shared on his verified X account, Kwankwaso praised the bishops for what he described as their courage and patriotism in drawing attention to the nation’s worsening economic and security situation.
He stated that the concerns raised by the bishops over soaring living costs, insecurity, declining public confidence in government, and widespread hardship were neither politically motivated nor exaggerated but reflected the daily experiences of ordinary Nigerians across the country.
According to Kwankwaso, Nigeria possesses enormous human and natural resources, yet many citizens continue to battle poverty, unemployment, insecurity, poor healthcare, inadequate education, and shrinking economic opportunities.
He urged political leaders at all levels to embrace sincere, people-focused policies capable of addressing the country’s growing challenges.
Kwankwaso also encouraged Nigerians to continue engaging governments constructively while demanding accountability, good governance, and policies that prioritise citizens’ welfare, security, and prosperity.
He stressed that only responsible leadership and collective commitment could guarantee a peaceful, united, and prosperous Nigeria.
His remarks followed a recent communiqué issued by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria after its plenary meeting, where the bishops warned that inflation, rising food prices, insecurity, unemployment, and declining confidence in public institutions were pushing more Nigerians into hardship.
The bishops called on the Federal Government to implement policies that directly improve citizens’ welfare, strengthen security, and restore public trust.
Kwankwaso’s endorsement adds to the growing number of political leaders and stakeholders urging the Tinubu administration to take urgent steps to tackle the country’s economic and security challenges.
