Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has warned President Bola Tinubu against any attempt to manipulate the August 15 governorship election, insisting that the people of the state will resist electoral malpractice.

Speaking during a campaign rally, Adeleke said Osun residents would come out in large numbers to vote and would protect their ballots to ensure the outcome reflected the will of the people.

The governor, who described himself as the Chief Security Officer of the state, said he had a constitutional responsibility to safeguard lives and maintain peace throughout the election period.

Adeleke also alleged that the police had become compromised and urged security agencies to focus their efforts on tackling insecurity and kidnapping rather than interfering in the electoral process.

Addressing President Tinubu directly, the governor questioned why Osun State was allegedly facing political pressure despite the state’s endorsement of the president as the Accord Party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 election.

He further appealed to the president to ensure that the upcoming governorship election remains free, fair and credible, warning against a repeat of events similar to the annulment of the June 12, 1993 presidential election.

Adeleke also accused former Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, of contributing to tensions in the state and alleged that innocent people had lost their lives due to political violence.
