Army Officer, Policeman Killed as Troops Repel Terrorist Attack, Rescue Nine Abductees in Zamfara

Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have repelled a terrorist attack on the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Kasuwan Daji, Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State, killing several attackers and rescuing nine abducted civilians.
Drivetvnews gathered that the Nigerian Army disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday by the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba.
According to the statement, the terrorists launched the attack around 1:40 a.m. on Sunday, attempting to infiltrate the military base under the cover of darkness.
The troops, however, detected the movement of the attackers early and responded with coordinated firepower, forcing the terrorists to abandon the assault and flee.
Following the failed attack, reinforcements were deployed, while troops pursued the fleeing terrorists, who had abducted several residents from nearby communities during the assault.
The military said the operation led to the successful rescue of nine abducted civilians, while several terrorists were reportedly killed during the encounter.
Despite the successful operation, the Army confirmed that one Army officer and one police officer lost their lives during the intense gun battle.
It also disclosed that two soldiers sustained gunshot wounds and were airlifted to a medical facility for advanced treatment. The injured personnel are said to be in stable condition.
The Army noted that troops have secured the area and launched follow-up operations to assess the extent of the terrorists’ casualties and prevent further attacks on surrounding communities.
Describing the operation as another major blow against terrorist groups operating in the North-West, the military said sustained offensives under Operation FANSAN YAMMA continue to weaken the capabilities of armed groups in the region.
The Army also dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that six security personnel were killed during the attack, clarifying that only one Army officer and one police officer died in the exchange.
It reaffirmed its commitment to ongoing operations aimed at dismantling terrorist networks and restoring lasting peace across Nigeria’s North-West.
