The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called on President Bola Tinubu to replicate the security strategy that led to the rescue of abducted pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State in other parts of the country where kidnapping victims remain in captivity.
In a statement issued on Friday by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the opposition party commended the successful rescue operation but insisted that every Nigerian deserves the same level of commitment from the Federal Government, regardless of where an abduction occurs.
The party’s appeal followed President Tinubu’s disclosure that the government rejected negotiations with the kidnappers and instead relied on intelligence-driven operations to secure the release of the Oriire victims.
ADC described the rescue as a significant achievement but questioned why similar tactics had not been deployed in states such as Kwara, Borno, Zamfara, Kaduna, Niger and Benue, where many victims are still being held by kidnappers.
According to the party, while every rescued life is a victory, the success of the Oriire operation raises important questions about the government’s approach to other unresolved kidnapping cases across the country.
The party noted that hundreds of families continue to live in uncertainty, waiting for news about loved ones who remain in captivity, and urged the Federal Government to demonstrate the same determination shown in the Oyo operation nationwide.
ADC maintained that the Oriire rescue should become the benchmark for Nigeria’s response to kidnapping rather than remain an isolated success story.
It further urged the Federal Government to deploy the same intelligence, surveillance and operational resources used in Oyo to ongoing kidnapping cases, stressing that every Nigerian deserves equal protection irrespective of location.
