The presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 election, Peter Obi, on Wednesday held a meeting with former President Olusegun Obasanjo, as political activities ahead of the next general election continue to gather momentum.
Photos from the meeting were shared on X by Obi’s official photographer, Esther Umoh, who simply stated that the NDC presidential candidate met with the former president earlier in the day.
The meeting comes shortly after Akin Osuntokun, a former political adviser to Obasanjo, claimed that the former president played a key role in facilitating the political alliance between Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking on Arise Television, Osuntokun dismissed claims that Obasanjo was secretly backing President Bola Tinubu, insisting instead that the former leader had been instrumental in bringing opposition figures together.
The latest meeting also follows Obi’s recent exit from the coalition-backed African Democratic Congress (ADC) alongside his former running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, to join the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), citing internal disputes and ongoing legal challenges within the ADC.
