The Nigeria Police Force has failed to produce the self-acclaimed Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC), Adeyemi Adeniyi, before the House of Representatives Ad Hoc Committee investigating the alleged agency.
The committee had earlier directed the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, to present Adeniyi before lawmakers by noon on Wednesday to assist with the ongoing investigation.
However, during the committee’s sitting, police representatives explained that Adeniyi could not be brought before the panel because he is currently being held under a valid court remand order.
According to the police, releasing him without proper legal authorisation would violate the existing court order.
The officers told the lawmakers that while the police remain willing to cooperate with the investigation, they require a written court warrant or other legal approval before producing the suspect before the committee.
They therefore urged the House panel to obtain the necessary court-backed authorisation to enable Adeniyi’s appearance without breaching the remand order.
