A Federal High Court in Abuja has reduced the bail granted to the National President of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, Alhaji Bello Bodejo, from ₦2 billion to ₦1 billion in his ongoing alleged money laundering case.
Drivetvnews gathered that Bodejo is being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations that he laundered $2.63 million. He has denied the charges and pleaded not guilty.
Justice Inyang Ekwo had initially granted him bail on July 20, setting the amount at ₦2 billion with two sureties. The conditions required one surety to provide three years of tax clearance and reside within the court’s jurisdiction, while the other had to own landed property worth ₦2 billion in Abuja.
However, during Wednesday’s hearing, Justice Salim Ibrahim, sitting as a vacation judge, approved Bodejo’s request to review the bail conditions.
The court reduced the bail to ₦1 billion with two sureties. One of the sureties must own landed property valued at ₦1 billion in Guzape, Asokoro or Maitama in Abuja.
The judge also directed both sureties to submit photocopies of their driver’s licence, National Identification Number (NIN) or international passport.
Justice Ibrahim ordered that the case file be returned to Justice Ekwo for the continuation of the substantive trial.
Bodejo was arraigned on July 9 on a six-count charge and has maintained his innocence.
