The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has donated ₦100 million and a brand-new Toyota Hilux vehicle to support the Iru Ekun Security Network, a community security outfit established by Yoruba Nation campaigner Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho.
Drivetvnews gathered that the announcement was made during a courtesy visit by Igboho and members of the security outfit to the Ooni’s palace in Ile-Ife. According to a statement issued by the palace’s Directorate of Media and Public Affairs, the donation is aimed at strengthening the group’s operations in promoting community security.
The monarch praised Igboho for taking practical steps to enhance the safety of lives and property, stressing that security remains the foundation for peace and development. He said every sincere initiative designed to protect communities deserves support, regardless of political or ideological differences.
The Ooni also appealed to traditional rulers, community leaders, business owners, professionals and other Yoruba stakeholders to unite behind the security network, emphasizing that collaboration is essential to safeguarding Yorubaland.
In his response, Sunday Igboho expressed appreciation for the donation, describing the Ooni as a father figure to the Yoruba people worldwide. He said the visit was also an opportunity to brief the monarch on the activities of the Iru Ekun Security Network and seek his royal guidance.
Igboho further disclosed plans to organise a regional security summit involving traditional rulers across Yorubaland to discuss practical strategies for tackling insecurity. He said the proposed summit, subject to the Ooni’s approval, is expected to take place at the Ooni’s Palace in Ile-Ife.
