Adamawa State Police Command has arrested three suspected members of a gang accused of terrorising residents of Yola and surrounding communities as part of ongoing efforts to combat violent crime in the state.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje, disclosed in a statement on Thursday that operatives attached to the D15 unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department carried out a targeted operation based on credible intelligence.
The operation led to the arrest of three suspects identified as 22-year-old Abdulmalik Mohammad, 21-year-old Abba Mustapha, and 22-year-old Ibrahim Yusuf.
According to the police, the arrests are part of a broader campaign against Shilla gangsterism and other criminal activities that have continued to threaten public safety across the state.
Investigators alleged that the suspects were involved in criminal conspiracy and were found in possession of dangerous weapons and prohibited substances. Security operatives reportedly recovered several items during the operation, which are expected to aid ongoing investigations.
Preliminary findings further linked the suspects to criminal networks associated with Shilla gangs, a group that has generated concern among residents of Yola and neighbouring communities.
The Commissioner of Police in Adamawa State, Kabir Hassan, reaffirmed the command’s determination to intensify operations against criminal gangs and other security threats. He also appealed to residents to continue providing timely and credible information that can support law enforcement efforts.
Police authorities confirmed that investigations are still ongoing and that the suspects will be charged in court once the process is concluded.
