A Family Court sitting at the Magistrate Court in Aba, Abia State, has sentenced a 30-year-old school security guard, Chidiebere Kalu, to one year in prison after finding him guilty of sexually abusing a 10-year-old female pupil.
Drivetvnews gathered that Kalu, who worked at Radiant Glory Academy in Umuichichi, Aba, was convicted on August 5, 2026, following a case initiated after the child’s family reported the incident to the authorities.
The court found him guilty on two charges—indecent assault and instilling fear in a minor.
For the first offence, he was sentenced to one year imprisonment without the option of a fine. On the second count, he received another one-year prison term with the option of paying a ₦200,000 fine. However, the court ordered that both sentences run concurrently.
Following the judgment, the Vivacious Development Initiative (VIDI), working alongside the Child Protection Network (CPN), Abia State Chapter, welcomed the verdict, describing it as a significant milestone in the fight against child abuse and a strong affirmation of justice for vulnerable children.
The organisations also stressed the importance of protecting children within school environments and ensuring offenders are held accountable under the law.
