Nollywood actress Lizzy Anjorin has declared that it is inconceivable for someone of her stature to steal gold valued at ₦91,000. This statement comes in response to the theft allegations that emerged on social media several months ago.
Anjorin faced accusations of pilfering a gram of gold, worth ₦91,000, at the Idumota market in Lagos. In a recent podcast appearance, she addressed these claims, comparing the alleged value of the gold to a grain of rice.
She dismissed the allegations, asserting that as a person involved in high-value gold and fashion accessories, stealing an item worth ₦91,000 is beneath her. “Let’s clarify that we are talking about ₦91,000 worth of gold when a gram of gold was priced around ₦150,000. A gram of gold is smaller than a grain of rice. How could I possibly steal something smaller than a grain of rice? I am a certified jewelry seller specializing in gold and diamonds. You can see it from my appearance. I am also a certified fabric merchant and have a penchant for high fashion,” she said.
Continuing, Anjorin added, “What I am wearing right now is about 350 to 400 grams, and it is well known that I deal in high-quality jewelry, ranging from 19 to 22 carats. I sell premium pieces, so the idea of stealing a gram of gold at Eko Idumota is absurd. I am not a thief and never will be; I am too disciplined and straightforward to engage in such behavior.”
