Nigeria’s acclaimed music icon, Onyeka Onwenu, known as the “Elegant Stallion,” is being laid to rest today in Lagos. Onwenu, who was 72 years old, died on July 30, 2024, after collapsing at an event celebrating Dr. Stella Okoli, the Managing Director of Emzor Pharmaceuticals. She was taken to Reddington Hospital in Ikeja, where she was pronounced dead.
The funeral service will be held at the Fountain of Life Church in Ilupeju, Lagos, followed by a private burial at a vault in Ikoyi, as reported. According to the funeral flyer released by her family, the Service of Songs will begin at 10:00 AM and continue until noon, with the burial scheduled from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
Onyeka Onwenu was a multifaceted personality whose impact spanned music, broadcasting, acting, politics, and activism. She is remembered for her enduring music and influential activism and is survived by her two sons.
The funeral is expected to be attended by various dignitaries, celebrities, and fans who have cherished Onwenu’s contributions to Nigerian culture.
