Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has highlighted that Nigeria is richly endowed with various resources necessary for its growth. He believes that economic challenges are not part of God’s plan for the country, emphasizing that Nigeria is blessed with an abundance of natural wealth.

Obasanjo shared these views during the 40th anniversary celebration of the Methodist Archdiocese of Abuja, held on Sunday in Abuja. He expressed that Nigeria possesses all the resources required for prosperity.

He urged Nigerian leaders to make wise use of these abundant resources to foster national development. His comments aligned with the message of the Methodist Prelate, Dr. Oliver Aba, stressing the need to recognize and appreciate God’s blessings.

Obasanjo stated, “Just as other nations have been blessed with resources, Nigeria, too, has been endowed with numerous assets for growth. Like Egypt has the River Nile, Nigeria has the Rivers Niger and Benue, alongside crude oil, fertile soil, and various other natural resources. I am convinced that God did not intend for Nigeria to face economic struggles. We have been given all that we need; it’s up to us to appreciate these blessings, especially since many nations lack what we have.”

He called on leaders, religious figures, and citizens to pray for the nation’s recovery, admitting that the current situation in Nigeria is not God’s doing.

He added, “We have mismanaged God’s blessings, but if we humble ourselves and seek His guidance, He will bring healing to our land.”

President Bola Tinubu, represented by Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, also spoke at the event, lauding the Methodist Church Nigeria for its dedication to social justice, education, and humanitarian efforts.

In his message, Tinubu acknowledged the significant role of the Methodist Church in Nigeria’s development, praising its contributions over the past 183 years and the church’s commitment to faith, community, and service through the 40-year history of the Abuja Archdiocese.

“The Methodist Church has played a crucial role in our nation’s progress through its commitment to social justice, education, and humanitarian work, touching lives across the country,” Tinubu stated.
