The Enugu State Police Command has reported the death of Chikwado Eze, a resident of Ugbaike in Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area. Eze’s death allegedly occurred during a ritual intended to prepare him for a journey abroad.

According to reports, a traditional healer named Enuwa Odugu carried out the ritual, which involved burying Eze alive for an hour and a half—a practice believed to enhance prospects in foreign ventures. Unfortunately, Eze did not survive the procedure.

Daniel Ndukwe, the police spokesperson, disclosed that both 48-year-old Enuwa Odugu and 67-year-old Uwakwe Eze, the victim’s father, have been arrested for their involvement in the incident, which led to the death of 26-year-old Chikwado Eze.

The police statement revealed that Uwakwe Eze brought his son to the healer’s shrine for rituals believed to provide protection through charms. During the ritual, Chikwado Eze was buried inside a coffin, but he did not survive. He was taken to the hospital, where medical personnel confirmed his death, and his body has been placed in a morgue for preservation and further examination.

The police have initiated an investigation, with legal action pending the conclusion of inquiries.
