The Chairman of Agidigbo FM in Ibadan, Oriyomi Hamzat, has been hospitalized after losing consciousness in the aftermath of a tragic stampede at a Christmas funfair in Ibadan. The incident claimed 35 lives, mostly children, and left several others injured.
According to a source, Hamzat’s condition is attributed to the emotional shock of the devastating event. “The chairman of Agidigbo FM, Ibadan, is currently unconscious and receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital. The tragic incident was too overwhelming for him, causing him to lose consciousness,” the source revealed. The source added that further updates on his condition would be shared as available.
The stampede occurred when a crowd of over 5,000 children reportedly gathered for the event, drawn by promises of free food and cash handouts. Chaos erupted as attendees rushed to gain entry following the arrival of the event’s organizers.
In response to the tragedy, President Bola Tinubu has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances leading to the incident.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, the president expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and extended his condolences to the victims’ families and the people of Oyo State. Tinubu emphasized the need for a thorough inquiry to determine whether negligence or intentional actions contributed to the tragedy. He assured the public that accountability and transparency would guide the investigation process.
