Nollywood actress Dayo Amusa has shared her emotional journey and the challenges she endured before achieving motherhood.
On November 18, 2024, Amusa welcomed her daughter, Oluwafirewamiri, in the United States. In a series of Instagram posts, the actress recounted her struggles, including three miscarriages, personal setbacks, and a 2015 diagnosis of uterine myomatosis—a condition that jeopardized her ability to conceive.
Following her diagnosis, medical professionals suggested a hysterectomy due to persistent complications and severe menstrual pain. However, Amusa was determined not to give up on her dream of becoming a mother. She pursued alternative treatments and eventually underwent surgery in the United Kingdom to remove the tumors.
“I never imagined I would reach this moment, but God had a plan,” Amusa shared. “For as long as I can remember, I’ve wanted to fulfill my dream of being a wife and mother. After experiencing three miscarriages, I was diagnosed with uterine myomatosis in 2015. Some doctors recommended removing my womb because of the pain and complications, but I decided to fight and refuse that option.”
On February 14, 2015, she underwent surgery to address the condition. However, in 2016, she discovered that one of her fallopian tubes was damaged, making natural conception nearly impossible.
Amusa faced another setback in 2019 when a failed IVF attempt strained her marriage. The situation worsened when her husband had a child with another woman, which ultimately led to the collapse of their relationship. Reflecting on that difficult period, she said, “In 2016, my then-partner and I tried again, hoping to have our first child together. Later, we found out that one of my tubes was damaged, making it nearly impossible to conceive naturally. Unfortunately, my partner became involved with another woman, and they had a child. After many ups and downs, our relationship ended.”
The actress revealed that these struggles led to depression, prompting her to withdraw from her career, family, and friends. She credited her mother for recognizing her declining mental health and encouraging her to relocate to the United States in 2021 for a fresh start.
Concluding her story, Amusa expressed gratitude to God and those who supported her throughout her journey. She described her experiences as a testament to resilience, faith, and the power of perseverance in overcoming life’s challenges.
