The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has assured Nigerians that electricity supply will remain stable throughout the holy month of Ramadan, which began on Saturday.
In a message to the Muslim community, Adelabu acknowledged the existing challenges in power supply and emphasized the government’s commitment to improving the situation. He noted that energy demand typically increases during Ramadan, particularly for pre-dawn (Suhoor) and post-sunset (Iftar) meals, as well as nightly prayers (Taraweeh).
“As Minister of Power, I am fully aware of the difficulties many Nigerians face regarding electricity supply. I understand that Ramadan requires greater energy consumption, and I assure the Muslim community that we are working tirelessly to provide a stable and reliable power supply throughout this sacred period and beyond,” he stated.
Adelabu reaffirmed the Federal Government’s dedication to enhancing power infrastructure and reducing grid failures.
“Our administration is focused on strengthening the power grid, improving infrastructure, and expanding electricity access nationwide. Our objective is to ensure that every household experiences a comfortable and dignified Ramadan,” he added.
The minister also urged Nigerians to practice energy conservation by adopting simple habits such as switching off unused lights, using energy-efficient appliances, and unplugging devices when not in use.
“These small actions can significantly reduce electricity consumption and ease pressure on the national grid. Moreover, they align with Islamic teachings on responsible stewardship of the Earth’s resources,” he noted.
Ramadan as a Time for Reflection and Unity
Describing Ramadan as a period of deep spiritual reflection, self-discipline, and devotion, Adelabu reminded Muslims that fasting extends beyond refraining from food and drink—it also involves cultivating positive thoughts, actions, and behaviors.
“This sacred month offers an opportunity for spiritual renewal, strengthening our connection with Allah, seeking forgiveness, and engaging in acts of charity such as Zakat and Sadaqah. The Holy Qur’an, revealed during Ramadan, provides guidance for righteous living and serves as a source of inspiration,” he said.
Adelabu also emphasized the importance of national unity and harmony, urging Nigerians of all backgrounds to embrace mutual respect and cooperation.
“Nigeria is a nation rich in diversity, and by fostering peace and understanding, we can work towards a brighter future. Let us use this holy month to promote tolerance, goodwill, and prayers for the country’s progress,” he added.
Prayers for Nigeria’s Peace and Development
Concluding his message, the minister encouraged Muslims to pray for Nigeria’s peace, stability, and development.
“Let us seek Allah’s guidance for our leaders, the strength to overcome challenges, and the wisdom to work for the common good. May He bless our nation with prosperity and opportunities for all,” he prayed.
