Bishop David Oyedepo, the founder of Living Faith Church Worldwide, also known as Winners Chapel, has revealed a personal vow he made to God—to contribute to the construction of 1,000 churches during his lifetime.
During a recent sermon, Oyedepo shared with his congregation that he made this pledge long before he ever opened a bank account. His desire to support the expansion of God’s kingdom through church-building was one of his earliest personal commitments.
“Before I even had a bank account, I told Jesus, ‘If you ever bless me, I want to be involved in building churches,’” he said, addressing the audience. “Many of you have heard me say that before. You’ve heard almost everything I’ve shared.”
Highlighting the sincerity of his mission, he expressed a deep yearning to leave behind a meaningful legacy of service.
“I told Jesus that I don’t want to arrive in heaven without having built at least a thousand churches in His name,” he added.
Bishop Oyedepo went on to challenge members of his church to evaluate their own level of dedication and service to God. He pointed out that many people have resources they’re not using for the benefit of others or for the work of the ministry.
“Some people have buses sitting idle on Sundays, and they still won’t bring them out,” he remarked. “Why? Because of the cost of fuel—maybe N2,000 for half a litre. But if it’s truly in your heart, act on it.”
Encouraging his audience to take spiritual responsibility, he concluded with a call to action: “It’s in your hands now. You need to wake up. Let me tell you something—every person is a reflection of where they truly belong. It’s time your life starts to reflect what happens in this place.”
